Mitt and Fred to Form Winning Alliance?

After months of campaigning, one thing is clear: Fred Thompson is a true conservative and an excellent candidate. He enhanced the race with his humor and simple honesty- and he helped keep the issues of illegal immigration, entitlement reform, and national security at the core of the debates.

However, after the first 6 primaries, one more thing is clear: Fred is not going to win the nomination. However, with his experience, popularity, and conservative credentials, Fred still has a lot to offer in this race.

Fortunately, Fred's platform and personality work together perfectly to shore up the Republican establishment on a Romney-Thompson ticket.

Mitt is the only other guy left in the race that embraces economic, social, and national security conservativism. And, with Fred's support in Florida, Mitt could secure the nomination.

Furthermore, their personalities come together nicely. Mitt is a genious and an energetic CEO. He is eloquent and handsome, and known for his ability to lead change in large organizations. He turned around major corporations, saved the 2002 Olympic Games, and helped turn around Massachussetts. He even put together a revolutionary Health Care Plan in Massachussets without raising taxes. He is capable of solving our problems.

Fred has spent years dealing with Foreign Policy and Intelligence issues in the Senate. And, as he says, He is the guy that will sit on the other side of the table and stare our enemies in the eyes. Fred has many qualities and credentials that support Governor Romney's perceived weaknesses.

Mitt analyzes data and gives powerpoint presentations, Fred speaks from the heart. Mitt has been labeled as a flip-flopper, Fred gives the simple Southern Truth. Mitt sprints, Fred walks.
Mitt is a wealthy, pedigreed, highly-educated Mormon. Fred is a homegrown Southern Christian. Mitt has big cities, the West Coast, and national support. Fred has the South.

It all comes together, and so do they. Mitt for President. Fred for VP. Real Republicans in 2008!

Though a Mitt supporter, I've been doing a candidate forum on my blog (thearmyyouhave.blogspot.com) and I liked what Fred had going for him far and above what any other candidate had to offer. I just wish they'd get on the same ticket. Come on guys--any chance?

I would like to have seen a Thompson Romney ticket for 2008. That could have given Republicans the White House for the next 16 years! Let Fred run the place for the first 8 years while the public gets to know Mitt better, then let Mitt take over for the next 8 years.

What a great match this would be - not just the pairing of the candidates but more importantly of their supporters. Since Fred is a "conservative's conservative" other potential alliances don't make much sense. McCain-Feingold-Kennedy-Edwards-ACLU would be strange. Huckabee-Tax-Hiker would also be a weird one. Thompson himself in the last debate ram-rodded Huck as essentially a Democrat in Republican clothing. And Giuliani, while a good fiscal conservative, is anything but on the social issues important to many FredHeads and other conservatives. Romney has the same basic conservative positions as Thompson on economic and foreign policy issues, and social issues including being pro-life and strong on the immigration issue. This is the perfect time for us to join forces and it would solidify conservative support of the Republican ticket!

As a guy who waffled between Fred and Mitt and wound up on Mitt's side, I would really like this pairing. I think the ole red truck has run out of gas, but it put up a pretty good fight.

Seeing Romney and Fred together would be fantastic!! I love the idea, frankly. Putting the two solid conservatives together to go up against Huckabee and McCain... I like our odds.

Thompson could give Romney credence in the south, and Romney has plenty of organizational and strategical skills the Thompson campaign came up a bit short on.

Whatever the case, this would be a great alignment for conservatives!

Although I would much prefer a Thompson/Romney ticket, I think this would be the next best thing. The two of them could do a lot of good for our nation.

If Thompson is the true conservative he claims to be he will endorse Mitt Romney. I think a Romney/Thompson (in that order) ticket would be very strong.

I'm a Romney Fan, But I think this blog is wreckless and unprofessional.

I like Fred Thompson, I believe he's a true conservative. He and Romney have very similar ideas...however in your enthusiam for Mitt, I think you do a disservice to Fred assuming he's going to drop out and support Mitt.

Fred may still be a viable candidate if there's a brokered convention, and I think its extremely foolish to publish this kind of thing without any verification.

If Fred does drop out and support Mitt, I'd appreciate him even more...let's not forget the whole Phoney Fred website saga that gave the Romney Campaign a black eye.

This Blog is stupid!

Fred fans...vote your conscience, and don't let stupid people blog you into annyance.

I'm a Mitt supporter with great respect for Fred Thompson. While this blog may only exist to generate interest in a Romney-Thompson alliance and might not be based on any verifiable fact, I whole-heartedly support this worthy goal. I believe such a ticket would be unstoppable among core Republicans since all other candidates carry liberal baggage.

Spagdaddy,

We will see what Fred does this week. This blog is in support of him. I would love any ticket with Thompson or Romney at the head. I would not be thrilled to see Fred as Huck or Mac's VP. It seems contrary to his values. I suppose you would not be opposed to this blog if we do hear that Fred is dropping out and considering his options. Most of your criticisms are fair- except for the Phoney Fred thing. How could you compare this to that? This is all Pro-Fred!

Nealie Ride said...

Folks running this blog,

If Fred has not endorsed Mitt, I would not put out a notice saying he has. Hoping Thompson will is not the same as doing so.

It's one thing to attempt to get Fred and Mitt people to mix. Fine. We should be buddies, since we share much in common.

Yet, we don't know if Fred will drop out and/or endorse Mitt. If we don't know, don't say you know.

I'm prefer to wait and wonder than have false hope and false information.

I simply doubt this post alone will convince Fred to endorse Mitt. Thompson's already decided--perhaps even several days ago. He's now just waiting to announce.

AGAIN...LET ME BE CLEAR...

If there is no clear nominee after Super Tuesday we may be seeing a brokered convention...

If this is the case Fred Thompson remains a viable candidate...

Trying to pre-empt Fred Thompson voters into becoming Mittheads is wreckless and annoying to people who still whole-heartedly support Fred Thompson...and feel he is a viable candidate...

Secondly, You're not MITT ROMNEY, and you don't represent his staff or his campaign...

THIS becomes and issue such as the phoney fred incident when the media begins to say that Romney Fans are pre-empting a Fred drop-out and expecting all Fred supporters to support Romney by accepting a VP position for their candidate of choice... Who in the Romney campaign is silly enough to endenture Romney with a VP on his ticket...

Maybe Romney is looking for Jeb Bush to be his VP.... Maybe some other govenror/senator, or presidential candidate...

The way this blog is presented is assuming a lot, and I think its foolish to go around parading how stupid some Romney fans really are... IMO.

All you haters,

Let me be clear. This is not a news story or a notice of any sort. Nor is it ASSUMING ANYTHING. It is something I would like to see happen, and I created a forum for other people who might also like to see it happen. Period.

I've been a Mitt supporter for a long time, and in the past two months I have come to really admire Fred Thompson. When he listed Huckabee's many offenses against Conservatism at the SC debate a few weeks ago I said to myself, "I'm voting for Mitt, but I would be excited for a Thompson presidency as well."

I'm sad to see Thompson (probably) leave the race so soon. I'm disappointed that republicans didn't respond to his conservative message and his truthful demeanor. (In this campaign cycle he is the real straight talker.) Conservatism should be the underpinning philosophy of our party and Fred understands that. Fred should continue to be one of its leading advocates and apologists. I see no better way than for him to do that than for him to win the Vice Presidency at the side of our other conservative voice, Mitt Romney.

If Fred leaves the campaign trail and decides to endorse his old friend John McCain I will be a little surprised. In times as critical as these it becomes more important to defend the tenets of conservatism. Ideals and principles should supersede all other loyalties so that they can be passed on to future generations. We need leaders like Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson who embrace Reagan conservatism now more than ever. Mitt and Fred 2008!

I'm sympathetic to your objective. I'm a Fredhead who is inclined to support Romney should he drop out.

But I, too, want to know who you are? Are you a part of the Romney campaign?

Please....full disclosure?

From my talk with my fellows I think if (and the is a BIG IF) Fred drops out many will likely go to Mitt, but a good potion like myself will sit it out or in the end become so scared of ‘Hitlery’ that they will vote for whomever is the Republican nominee (except Huck). Not much of a recommendation is it, people voting for you because they are so afraid of the other guy?

Mitt lost me when his team started the 'dirty tricks’ campaign against Fred Now you are going to say that Mitt never approved or had knowledge of this acts (www.phoneyfred.org,push polling in Iowa)and maybe just maybe Mitt never personally approved any of these acts, but just like a CEO or for that matter the President you are ultimately responsible for the actions of your subordinates. And denials followed by a ‘I am sorry, but more sorry we got caught apology’ just doesn’t cut it with me. Maybe I a bit of a ‘Mr. Smith’, but I was raised that your reputation is not only what you do, but also who you associate with. Fred has had some hard talk for Mitt, Huck, and the others, but I challenge anyone who can point to anything dishonest committed by him or any campaign supporter.

In response to the request for full disclosure:

I am not affiliated with Fred or Mitt's campaign. But, I have donated money and volunteered for Mitt a few times.

I am registered on both Fred and Mitt's websites, and follow all of the Republican candidates as much as possible.

I not only think that this blog is irresponsible, but it could make a lot of people pretty mad and backfire big time. It would be like the way that Fred supporters must feel about Mike Up-Chuck-abee after Up-Chuck-abee blamed Fred and the snow for Up-Chuck-abee's loss to McCain in South Carolina. Obviously, if a person was a Fred supporter, he or she might be insulted when hearing that Up-Chuck-abee just thinks that voter should mindlessly follow Up-Chuck-abee because he's the CHRISTIAN LEADER too.

Much the same, in politics, don't make assumptions. It gets you into trouble and solves very little. Fred is a big boy. He can make his own decisions. If Romney or Fred or any other candidate cannot win on their own merits, they probably don't deserve the job.

Up-Chuck-abee has already admitted that he doesn't deserve the Presidency because admitted that he can't win without Fred quitting. The problem is that if Up-Chuck-abee was the only person running for President in the whole Country, he'd probably lose against "uncommitted."

SPAGDADDY...

Come on - lighten up dude. I don't see an effort to reach out to and communicate with Fred supporters as inappropriate. They are big boys and girls like we (hopefully) are and can decide for themselves what they will do. You don't have to be the 'daddy' here (get it... ;-)) If I was in Fred's corner right now as my #1, I would consider supporting him unless/until he withdraws, but I also might decide that although I love him I don't think he'll win and might look at who else I might support. Having this conversation now is not a bad thing...quite to the contrary.
